Admissions

Thank you for your interest in The Villages Charter School Autism Center. Enrollment is now open for the January 7, 2025 start date.

Our School is dedicated to meeting the educational needs of students on the autism spectrum. The center supports students’ academic, social, and emotional development through a combination of individualized instruction, specialized programs, and targeted therapies provided by our highly trained staff. Through incorporating principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), students will receive the therapy they need in a nurturing educational environment focused on individualized learning and growth.

The Villages Charter School Autism Center, LLC (TVCS AC) is a subsidiary of The Villages Charter School, Inc. which operates by a charter agreement approved by the Sumter County Board of Education and the Florida State Department of Education. Unlike traditional county schools, our enrollment criteria is based upon the place of employment of one of the parents/guardians rather than the geographic address of their home. The Autism Center has additional enrollment criteria based on the student’s individual education plan (IEP). Both The Villages Charter School (“VCS”) and The Villages Charter School Autism Center, LLC (TVCS AC) are Charter in the Workplace schools (see also School of Choice).

As the parent entity, VCS processes the Pre-Enrollment Eligibility on behalf of TVCS AC.

Employment is verified at the time of application and is verified monthly for all enrolled students. Placement and campus preference selection is based on the parent’s category of employment and priority is given to full-time employment (40 or more hours) versus part-time employment (under 40 hours). Priority is also given to students who have siblings already enrolled in The Villages Charter School.

Categories of Qualifying Employment

CATEGORY I – A Villages’ Company or Salesperson under contract with Properties of The Villages.

CATEGORY II – Business Partner Sub-Contractors -Business Partners under direct contract, other than a lease, with a Villages’ Company providing independent contractor, construction, maintenance, consulting, or other similar services in support of Villages’ Projects. Under “direct contract” refers to the relationships between Category 2 Business Partners and a Villages’ Company. The work and/or services provided to a Villages’ Company must be regular and ongoing, and that work must be paid for directly from a Villages’ Company.  Business Partners in Category 2 whose book of business meets the Minimum Threshold Percentage for Villages’ Projects may qualify for employee categorization that isn’t solely dependent on the hours worked on only Villages’ Projects. For businesses who perform regular and ongoing services to a Villages’ Company but who also performs services for other businesses and or the after-market consumer (non-Villages’ Company), only that work provided to and paid for by a Villages’ Company will be considered when determining eligibility, and only those employees performing those services on behalf of the Business Partner under direct contract are eligible for the benefits of The Villages Charter School.

CATEGORY III – Business Partners who lease directly from one of the commercial real estate entities in a Villages’ company.

CATEGORY IV – Business Partners that own or lease a permanent business site from a non-Villages’ entity, from which they operate their business within The Villages. The Villages Charter School Enrollment Committee will review each applicant in this Category to confirm, in its sole discretion, that the Business Partner participates in and benefits the development and operation of The Villages.

The Authorization for Release of Employment (Paper Copy, Second Page)- the qualifying parent (Parent/Legal Guardian) is to complete and have notarized.

Please submit pages 1 and 2 together, as incomplete forms will not be accepted.

This form is required when the qualifying parent no longer has qualifying employment.

SECTION V – Individual Loss of Eligibility

If an employee/parent whose employment at a Villages Company or at a qualifying Business Partner has ended, any child/children qualified through that employee/parent will become ineligible immediately.

Any child/children who become ineligible may be dismissed immediately. The employee/parent may petition for continued enrollment through the end of the next school term. Please see the form below. Completed forms are to be submitted to the Enrollment Office.

Continued enrollment will be at the discretion of the building principal and the Director of Education, based upon a number of criteria, i.e. qualified students on a waiting list, time of year, etc.

The child/children’s eligibility for enrollment will be revisited each year and may take into consideration the fact that the child/children have been placed on behavior and/or attendance contracts during the previous school year.

Any loss of enrollment eligibility may result in a student reentering the enrollment matrix at the bottom of their designated Business Category – Employee Category. Compliance with the employment requirements is at the sole discretion of the Enrollment Committee.

Completed petitions forms are to be submitted to the Office of Admissions or by scanning and emailing to Tara.Milow@tvcs.org

An essential element for the success of students at The Villages Charter School is the inclusion of parents in varied capacities. Research indicates that the involvement of parents in the academic areas of a child’s life can greatly increase the child’s chances of success.

While involvement may take many forms, our charter and the Charter School Advisory Board have determined a minimal acceptable level of participation for each family as well as specific areas where involvement has the largest impact on student success.

Parent involvement is mandatory for your child to attend The Villages Charter School, a “Charter School-in-the-Workplace” and we hope the following information will prove helpful as we journey through the school year together.

Important Information

  • Qualifying parent(s) (father/mother/stepfather/stepmother) and/or spouse (or designated adult if single parent) must complete 20 hours per school year for each building (Elementary (K-5), Middle, High School) where you have children enrolled. Your Total Hours Required includes a minimum of 10 hours of Informational Meeting time and does not have to exceed more than 10 hours, regardless of how many students that you have enrolled in any building. The maximum number of hours required for any family will not exceed 50 hours per year.
  • If you have children enrolled in the Early Childhood Center (ECC), the total hours required is 10 service hours. Your required number of hours for the ECC will not reflect on your PI portal, however your hours will be recorded on your PI portal. For Early Childhood Center PI questions, please contact their front office.
  • While other family members, relatives or friends are encouraged to participate as community volunteers, their time cannot be calculated as PI Time. The time frame for completing parental involvement hours begins the day after the closing of one school year and goes on until the last day of the next school year.
  • Please note, if you have a senior and they are applying for a scholarship, your PI obligation must be completed by March 1st . It is recommended that you plan your activities and meet your obligation early each school year. We have developed a detailed “Parent Involvement Manual” to help guide you through this process.  Click here for a brochure.

Incomplete PI time after the last day of school will result in loss of eligibility.
